The Chinese and open space

One of the things you'll notice about the Chinese (if you ever come here) is their use of public space. I'm not anti-social (well maybe I am, but not that much) but I was shocked by how much the Chinese got out an met each other in parks, areas of greenery and squares.

If you ever go out here (especially in the mornings and evenings, but generally all day too), you'll be shocked by how much that people go out to meet each other. They aren't eating or drinking together either. They usually just wander about and chat, but also a lot of public card playing, along with singing, performing, dancing, or doing tai chi together.

Personally I don't get a lot of it. The meeting people bit I get, but part of me feels that there' a bit of exhibitionism going on here, because if you really wanted to do it, you could do it just as well at home.
