I went to see the Dallas Mavericks play the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. No offense to people who like the sport, but it struck me as a sport that's watched by people with ADHD. It's all flashing light, loud noises, yelling and screaming by the announcer, girls dancing and players running round like loons.
Maybe I'm too inexperienced with the sport, but I couldn't see any global planning or scheme. It was just guys running round, passing and shooting and that doesn't really appeal to me. At least with baseball you have to use some cunning to get the guy out.
The other thing that struck me was the Memphis nickname. I can see the logic behind "Mavericks" (with the whole "Don't mess with Texas" thing), but can someone explain "Grizzlies" to me?
The Mavericks won 111-97, but I don't think I'll be going back.
