Visually it was a very interesting film. I've not read the Frank Miller comic book that the film is based on, but like Sin City that came out last year (also by Frank Miller), I suspect that some of the images were lifted directly from the book. This isn't a bad thing though, Miller knows how to create powerful visual images.
The story wasn't too strong (plucky state stands up against an overwhelming force to speak for democracy and all that's good in the world), but was strong enough most of the time to carry the story forward and link the various choreographed fight scenes together.
The story itself will probably speak to people in a number of ways. Texans might see elements of the Alamo and their independence in it. Americans might see elements of their efforts in the Middle East in the story, but the strongest feeling I got was the parallels that an Iraqi insurgent might draw from the story. Try as I might, I couldn't shake that feeling as I watched the film.
